Crime in the UK is actually falling, yet our fear of crime grows.
The justice system criminalises more young people now than the rest of Europe. Once branded these young people are unsupported. In the 1970’s Borstals were shut down deemed too expensive and ineffective. Since then the youth crime re-offending rate has soared. With a prison population growing by 11% per annum the justice systems failure to rehabilitate offenders is something we can ill afford to ignore.
Instead of addressing problem, we with the collusion of politicians and the media are creating more of the very thing we fear... criminals.
